Chimamanda Adichie was awarded an honorary degree in Fine Arts by Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) at its 136th Commencement ceremony, June 2019. This degree by the RISD becomes Adichie’s 4th honorary degree in the space of one month and 11th honorary degree from a US University.

The talking drum is an hourglass-shaped drum whose pitch can be regulated to mimic the tone and prosody of human speech. It has two drumheads connected by leather tension cords, which allow the player to modulate the pitch of the drum by squeezing the cords between their arm and body.
