At least 48 killed, 48 missing as torrential rain pounds Japan

The Japanese government confirmed on Sunday (July 8) at least 48 people have been killed, with an additional 22 unresponsive and feared dead as record heavy rains pummelled cities and towns, triggering floods and landslides across western Japan over several days.
