Excited Londoners visit their zoo for the first time in three months as animal parks reopen in the UK after the easing of coronavirus lockdown measures. Some parts of the zoo remain closed to the public but all of the 2,000 tickets put on sale for the first day have been purchased.
After being bought by an NGO, the Pont-Scorff zoo is set to be transformed into a wildlife rehabilitation centre. Rewild, a coalition of seven associations, collected €650,000 in a fundraiser and has until 31 May to gather necessary funds for the purchase.
After five futile attempts at impregnating Huan Huan, a female panda loaned to French zoo Beauval by China, her enthusiastic but ineffective partner Yuan Zi has had to step aside. Huan Huan has now been artificially inseminated, leaving Yuan Zi, who "does not have enough experience yet" according to the head vet at the zoo, to hope for better next time round.
